How to choose an Infant Scale

Accurate measurement of infant weight is important not only for growth evaluation, but to ensure that correct medication is administered, and avoid under or over-dosing!

Weight estimation methods (utilizing information such as infant height or age) have limited accuracy, with even the most accurate PAWPER tape method getting about 75-89% of results within 10% of actual weight. For infants in particular, even a 10% inaccuracy could result in significant dosage errors, depending on the medication.

As such, every department should have at least one infant scale readily available for use at all times so you have measured weight rather than estimated weight.

Charder provides a variety of Infant Scales that are appropriate for different use scenarios, country or region-specific regulations, and special functions. This quick guide will make it easier for you to select the right Infant Scale!

Located outside the European Union?

We still recommend the EU-certified scales above due to their accuracy and increased functionality!

That said, if regulations are not a consideration and portability is your primary concern, you can also consider our most lightweight option - the classic MS2400.

Do note that due to the low profile, the measurement tray curvature isn't as big as the other models above, which may make weighing unruly patients a bit more difficult.
