Small-sized animals
Just as it is for people, large changes in weight may be important indicators of illness. But for smaller animals in particular, more precision is needed - a 500g difference for a small animal is the equivalent of a 10 kg difference for a person!
Most bathroom scales can't measure below 2-3 kg effectively, and generally use 100g increments at best. That's not good enough for smaller pets, which is why specialized scales like the VFP-249 Oserio Pro Pet Scale allow for measurement down to 1g and up to 20 kg.

Large-sized Animals
